1. Close your DraftKings account
Support channel: In-app chat or account closure form on the DraftKings support site.
- 1Open the app or sign in on a desktop browser.
- 2Go to Account → Responsible Gaming → Account Closure.
- 3Choose a duration: temporary (1-180 days) or permanent.
- 4Confirm the closure. You will receive a confirmation email.
- 5Withdraw any remaining balance before closure or during the cooling-off window.
Note. Permanent closure cannot be reversed through support chat. Reopening requires escalation and can take weeks.
2. Enroll in your state's self-exclusion registry
Closing your DraftKings account does not stop you from signing up elsewhere. State self-exclusion binds every operator licensed in your state, typically for a minimum of one year. It's the step that actually keeps the door locked.
DraftKings: DraftKings state self-exclusion registration
Account → Responsible Gaming → Self-Exclusion. Routes into the state-specific registry for your account.
Minimum period: Varies by state: typically 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, or lifetime.
3. Block the app on your phone
Deletion is not enough. Apps can be reinstalled in seconds. Gamban, BetBlocker, and phone-level restrictions (iOS Screen Time, Android Family Link) all make reinstalling much harder. Hand the passcode to someone you trust, not yourself.

Closed accounts are a marketing problem for operators. Expect outreach. Being ready for it matters.
- →Push notifications about promos around major sporting events (Super Bowl, March Madness).
- →SMS bonus-reload offers sent even after temporary closure expires.
- →Cross-app promotion between Sportsbook and Casino where both are legal.
Get recovery support
Closing one platform is the start, not the solution. Gambling disorder is a behavioral addiction recognized in the DSM-5, and it responds to real treatment — CBT, peer support, medication management in some cases, and community.
