Terms of Service

The terms behind your support.

Plain-language terms for using Cope Compass, written for a recovery community.

Last updated May 23, 2026.

1. Acceptance of Terms

Cope Compass is operated by Cope Compass LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("Cope Compass," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Cope Compass websites, mobile applications, and related services (together, the "Service").

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using Cope Compass you represent that you are 18 or older and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

The Service is not designed for emergencies and is not a crisis-response system. If you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, do not rely on the Service. See the crisis resources below.

3. Not Medical or Clinical Advice

Cope Compass provides recovery-support tools, peer-support features, and informational content for people affected by gambling. It is not a healthcare provider, and the Service does not provide medical, clinical, psychological, legal, or financial advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Content and tools on the Service are for general informational and self-help purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional care. Always seek the advice of a qualified clinician or other appropriate professional with any questions about your health, treatment, finances, or legal situation. Never disregard or delay seeking professional advice because of something you read or used on the Service.

4. Emergencies and Crisis Support

The Service is not for emergencies. If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, call 911 right away.

If you are in emotional crisis or having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. For gambling-specific support, call 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537), available 24 hours a day, free and confidential.

Peer features, messages, and AI features on the Service are not monitored in real time and must not be used to seek emergency help.

5. AI Features (Orby)

Cope Compass may offer an AI-powered guide known as "Orby." Orby uses one or more third-party artificial intelligence providers to generate responses. Orby is software, not a human. It is not a therapist, counselor, sponsor, or medical professional, and it does not provide medical, clinical, legal, or financial advice.

Orby may produce information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or not appropriate for your situation. Do not rely on Orby for emergencies, crisis support, or clinical decisions. Use the crisis resources above instead.

To operate Orby and to support quality and safety, the content of your interactions may be processed by a third-party AI provider and may be reviewed by our care team. Please do not share information through Orby that you would not want processed by an AI provider or reviewed for safety.

6. Provider Directory

The Service may include a directory of treatment providers, programs, meetings, and other recovery resources. These listings are informational only. A listing is not an endorsement, recommendation, referral, or guarantee by Cope Compass.

We do not verify, and we do not guarantee, any provider’s credentials, licensure, availability, quality, methods, or outcomes. You are responsible for independently evaluating any provider before engaging them. Any relationship you form with a provider is between you and that provider.

The directory is not pay-to-play. Providers cannot purchase placement, ranking, or featured status. We may charge providers for clinical tools and services, but never for position in the directory.

7. Accounts and User Conduct

You are responsible for the information you provide and for activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep your login credentials secure. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account.

You agree not to misuse the Service. Among other things, you will not harass, threaten, abuse, or harm other members; impersonate others; attempt to identify or de-anonymize other members; scrape or harvest data; interfere with the Service’s operation or security; or use the Service for any unlawful purpose. Respect the anonymity and privacy of other members at all times.

8. User Content and Community Guidelines

You may submit content such as messages, reflections, profile details, and posts ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant Cope Compass a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and process your User Content solely to operate and improve the Service.

You are responsible for your User Content. Do not post another person’s protected health information or other private details, and do not post content that is unlawful, harassing, or harmful. Our community is abstinence-aligned: content that promotes or normalizes gambling is not permitted.

We may review, moderate, remove, or restrict User Content that violates these Terms or our community guidelines, and we may suspend or terminate accounts that do so. We are not obligated to monitor User Content, but we may do so to support safety.

9. Subscriptions and Billing

Cope Compass offers a free tier and a paid subscription, Cope Compass Plus. Paid plans are billed through our third-party payment processor. We do not store your full payment card details.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Except where required by law, payments are generally non-refundable for the portion of a period already elapsed.

We may change subscription pricing or features. We will provide reasonable advance notice of any price change, and changes apply to billing periods that begin after the notice period.

10. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, logos, and other content (other than User Content), is owned by Cope Compass LLC or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own recovery support.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from the Service except as expressly permitted by these Terms or applicable law. "Cope Compass" and our logos are our marks and may not be used without permission.

11. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may link to or integrate third-party websites, services, and resources, including hotlines, providers, and our payment processor and AI providers. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, practices, or availability. Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

12. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Please review it carefully. By using the Service you consent to the practices described there.

Read the full Privacy Policy.

13. Disclaimers of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any content, tool, or peer interaction will produce any particular recovery result.

Recovery is personal and outcomes vary. Cope Compass is a support tool and makes no promise about your recovery, your health, or your finances.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cope Compass LLC and its members, officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred U.S. dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Cope Compass LLC and its members, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or the rights of a third party.

16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first contact us so we can try to resolve the matter informally.

Subject to applicable law, you and Cope Compass agree that any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing here limits your right to contact a regulator or to pursue remedies that cannot be waived under applicable law.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice through the Service. Changes take effect when posted unless we say otherwise. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
